On the old 性视界传媒淪ledge Hammer!性视界传媒� television series, the lead character, a detective, would say, 性视界传媒淭rust me. I know what I性视界传媒檓 doing,性视界传媒� each time before he pulled his gun and put it under a suspect性视界传媒檚 chin, heedlessly shot up a room, or created pointless violent havoc.

Then someone else would have to figure out how the crime being investigated had occurred. Every now and again, Sledge, the lead character, would stumble onto an answer.

性视界传媒淪ledge Hammer!性视界传媒� was on the ABC television network in the 1980s. It was a spoof of the 性视界传媒淒irty Harry性视界传媒� movies, films in which the title character, a detective played by Clint Eastwood, would use his gun often, frequently for no good reason.

性视界传媒淪ledge Hammer!性视界传媒� was a genuinely funny show that was underappreciated, largely because it never got the time slot it deserved. The show lasted two seasons before being cancelled.

The Sledge role性视界传媒攜es, the character性视界传媒檚 first name was Sledge and his last name was Hammer性视界传媒攚as played with numbskull zeal by David Rasche, a fine character actor who decades later would come to his greatest fame as Karl on 性视界传媒淪uccession.性视界传媒�

I know a lot about 性视界传媒淪ledge Hammer!性视界传媒� because I wrote for it. Never did I think when I wrote for that satirical show that it would become so culturally relevant almost four decades later.

Here性视界传媒檚 why that性视界传媒檚 the case. Our president is much like Sledge. Trump shoots first and asks questions later, if at all. He says, sometimes word for word, 性视界传媒淭rust me. I know what I性视界传媒檓 doing.性视界传媒�

Then, after the economy, the justice system, or the international standing of our country is shot to pieces by his mindless political gunslinging, someone else must come in and try to figure out a solution. Every now and then, it appears, Trump himself somehow stumbles onto a way to patch up the messes he性视界传媒檚 created. I do give him credit for that.

Then, though, he does something reckless, feckless or stupid again and tells the American public and the world yet again, 性视界传媒淭rust me. I know what I am doing.性视界传媒� And time after time his advisors and supporters insist he does know what he性视界传媒檚 doing.

The fact is Sledge Trumper knows little about anything.

He touts himself as a great businessman but knows little about business, as evidenced by his six bankruptcies and countless business failures. He lauds himself as a great negotiator but is already tearing apart trade deals he personally put together during his first term. He fashions himself as an international tough guy, but anyone who knows real tough guys knows he性视界传媒檚 soft and a blowhard.

Just in the last week, Trump created an international trade war and collapsed the U.S. stock and bond markets. Small investors such as yours truly have had their retirement accounts eviscerated.

Some experts insist we should keep our money in the market, that it will bounce back. Even more experts say that isn性视界传媒檛 going to happen.

I性视界传媒檓 down tens of thousands of dollars in my retirement account since Trump opened fire on the world性视界传媒檚 economic system. I性视界传媒檓 not a rich guy. I性视界传媒檓 a humble writer and teacher.

I earned that money. I saved that money. I need that money.

For other older people, who depend only on Social Security and what little they managed to put away while working, the market collapse may mean either going back to work, if they physically can. It may mean missing meals, maybe even losing their homes.

性视界传媒淭rust me. I know what I性视界传媒檓 doing.性视界传媒� That性视界传媒檚 what Sledge Trumper keeps saying.

We should all know by now that he has no idea what he性视界传媒檚 doing and that we can性视界传媒檛 trust him with anything.
