EL CENTRO ÐÔÊӽ紫ý” A man was arrested on Thursday for his presumed involvement in a double attempted homicide case.

The Imperial County Sheriff's Office has reported that Richard Lopez, a 37-year-old man, was booked into the county jail by El Centro police officers at 4:55 p.m. on May 15. He faces two serious charges of attempted murder, with bail set at $1 million for one count and $2,000 for the other. Additionally, Lopez is charged with taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, which carries a bail amount of $2,000. His arrest took place at the intersection of Fourth Street and Villa Avenue.

El Centro Police Department said that at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, officers responded to a report of an assault near the 300 block of Eucalyptus Avenue.

Initial reports indicated that an individual had been struck in the head.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims suffering from severe injuries. Officers immediately began administering life-saving measures until personnel from the El Centro Fire Department arrived. Both victims were transported for additional medical treatment due to the critical nature of their injuries.

ECPD said the preliminary investigation revealed that a violent physical altercation had occurred where the suspect, Richard Lopez Jr., a 36-year-old resident of El Centro, attacked two victims at the location. A description of Lopez was quickly relayed to responding officers, and he was located and arrested.

Lopez was booked into the Imperial County Jail on charges of attempted homicide.

The city thanked members of the public who came forward with information that aided in the quick arrest of Lopez.

According to ECPD, the investigation has established that this was a targeted attack involving individuals known to one another and does not pose an ongoing threat to the public.
