Brawley to discuss city manager appointment

BRAWLEY ÐÔÊӽ紫ý” The Brawley City Council has scheduled a special meeting today at noon with a single item included on the agenda ÐÔÊӽ紫ý” the appointment of a city manager.

According to the agenda, right after public comments, members of the City Council will meet in closed session to consider the appointment.

In July 2024, then-Brawley City Manager Tyler Salcido announced his departure from the position to become Imperial County Local Agency Formation Commission Executive Officer.

Since then, Brawley Chief of Police Jimmy Duran has been the interim City managerÐÔÊӽ紫ý”a job he has held along with his duties as police chief. DuranÐÔÊӽ紫ý™s appointment was ratified by the city council early in August 2024.

Salcido assumed the ICLAFCO CEOÐÔÊӽ紫ý™s office by the end of August. The former city manager was appointed to BrawleyÐÔÊӽ紫ý™s top executive job in November 2020, a little over a year after being named Finance Director. He served as interim city manager from September to November, when he was tapped to fill in for long-time City Manager Rosanna Bayon Moore, who gave her notice to the city in August.

Salcido, a lifelong Imperial Valley resident, is a member of the Holtville Athletic Club. He has also served as a member of the Brawley Little League board (treasurer), as a coach, as a member of the Imperial Valley Girls Softball board, as a volunteer accountant for the California Mid-Winter Heritage Foundation, and as a past Mt. Signal 4-H leader. He previously served the city of Holtville as a City Council member and was mayor in 1997-98.

Interim City Manager joined the City of Brawley as Police Chief in 2020. During his time as interim city manager, Brawley voters approved Measure J, a 1% tax initiative expected to allow the city to collect close to $4 million per year. As Police Chief, Duran has relaunched the K9 Unit, the Brawley Police Foundation, and several other programs serving the community and the youth.
