County declares May as Asian American Pacific Islander Month

On Tuesday, the Imperial County Board of Supervisors proclaimed the month of May as Asian American Pacific Islander Month. During the meeting, the Imperial Valley Social Justice Committee was called to attend to receive the proclamation. City welcomes Animal Control Officer

The City of El Centro recently welcomed Katie Webb, who was sworn in as the new Animal Control Officer with the El Centro Police Department.

Webb brings a passion for public service and animal welfare to the community, the city said.

High pollution levels recorded

An 868 PM10 AQI level was recorded early on Wednesday, May 14, at the Brawley station located at 220 Main Street, according to an alert issued by the Imperial Valley Air Quality Alert system. The pollution level is considered hazardous.

The alert shows Niland recorded levels of unhealthy pollution for sensitive groups, unhealthy in Westmorland, and moderate in El Centro. Calexico recorded a good ozone level.

At 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, a hazardous level was recorded in Westmorland, with unhealthy levels in Brawley, unhealthy levels for sensitive groups in Niland, and moderate levels in Calexico and El Centro.

The system began recording high pollution levels at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Baja Runners invite community to cemetery cleaning

Calexico Baja Runners invites the community to join the organization at Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico on May 17 at 9:00 a.m. for Beautification Day. The event will help clean fallen veterans性视界传媒� tombstones.

Those attending are required to bring cordless tools and clean supplies.
