EL CENTRO性视界传媒擬ary Helen McCombs, Senior Warden of Saints Peter and Paul Episcopal Church, was unable to hide her joy in a recent interview. The church, founded in 1910, has welcomed its new Reverend Canon.
性视界传媒淚 met him four years ago with his mother at an event at the Episcopal Church and I knew that he would be a gift to our community in the Episcopal Church but also a gift to the community at large because his faith is tremendous and his ability to communicate with people is wonderful,性视界传媒 McCombs told the Imperial Valley Press about Father Antonio Munoz. 性视界传媒淚 think we have an opportunity to grow our church as well as grow in the community again that we haven't had in years.性视界传媒
McCombs, a decades-long church member, said a roommate in her freshman college year made her move from the Methodist Church to the Episcopalian.
性视界传媒淚 love the ritual. I love the liturgy,性视界传媒 McCombs continued. 性视界传媒淚 love the ambience that it creates, and it gives you a feeling that we are all one, and it's beautiful.性视界传媒
That love for her church is expected to increase with the incoming Reverend Canon Antonio Munoz, a Mexicali native who grew up Episcopalian at San Pedro Apostol Church. Before studying at the San Andres Theological Seminary in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Munoz graduated from Veterinary Medicine in 1985.
After serving as Vicar of St. Mary's Church in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, Father Munoz served under the same position in East Carolina and eventually moved to Texas, where he served for the Dioceses of Dallas and Camino Real. In the Lone Star State, he also served as Director of St. Matthew Theological Institute from 2004 to 2016. He was also a member of the national committee of the State of the Church from 1996 to 2000.
性视界传媒淚t's very beautiful. I like the church a lot,性视界传媒 Reverend Canon Munoz said about the local church. 性视界传媒淎nd although we Episcopalians are a few, we are very generous.性视界传媒
Father Munoz, who will celebrate his first Mass on Mother's Day, said the Episcopal Church, which founded the U.S., originally had 2 million members, the same number it currently has.
性视界传媒淲e are the ones who signed the Constitution of this country. We are the ones who liberated this country. We made the laws of this country,性视界传媒 he said. 性视界传媒淏ut we are not many.性视界传媒
Regardless of its limited membership, the Episcopal Church has very faithful, generous, and loving people, according to the Reverend Canon.
After three decades of service and 58 years of age, Father Munoz decided it was time to retire. However, he was called by Bishop Susan Brown Snook to serve on a part-time basis in the El Centro Church to help the local community that cannot afford to pay a full-time Reverend.
Father Munoz said he has plans to work on special projects to open the church to the whole community, paying honor to the Episcopal Church principle of being a church for everybody.
性视界传媒淓verybody is welcome,性视界传媒 he said. 性视界传媒淭he church continues working in the community, and brings the good news of the Lord to everybody in our own tradition.性视界传媒
Different from the Catholic Church, Episcopal priests can be married and even have family. Reverend Canon Munoz's father is also a priest.
Father Munoz said the Church welcomes anybody, regardless of race, color, and language, turning the faithful community into a single family.
Currently, Sts. Peter and Paul Church provides services in English, something Father Munoz, who is bilingual, seeks to change by providing services in Spanish shortly.
性视界传媒淭hat's my idea,性视界传媒 he said, adding that his goal is to strengthen the community, visit members, provide pastoral counseling, and enjoy his retirement with the faithful. 性视界传媒淭hat's the best part of this. You can enjoy your retirement with your people, and do what you like. I love to be a priest. I love to celebrate Mass, to celebrate the liturgy.性视界传媒
Father Munoz, whose wife still works in Salinas, has two grown-up children, one granddaughter, and two grandsons. He expects his wife to retire in a few years.
性视界传媒淚 love this place,性视界传媒 he said, adding that he had come to the region where he grew up to live. 性视界传媒淭his is the place I love to be and enjoy my retirement, working with the people I love.性视界传媒
On Wednesday, when the interview took place, Father Munoz visited the church founder, Frances Rice, at the hospital to pray for her and her family.
The Reverend Canon emphasized that he is not looking to bring members from other churches in the Valley. Instead, he wants to focus on those community members who don't have a church as a home.
性视界传媒淲e are a church for them if they don't have any church,性视界传媒 Father Munoz said. 性视界传媒淚 invite the community in El Centro and want to be part of the piece of my church, they are welcome.性视界传媒
McCombs shared that same feeling in her final remarks. 性视界传媒淲e would hope that the community would not only join us in our church adventure as we go, but we would hope the community would support us in all of the offerings we make to the community,性视界传媒 she said. 性视界传媒淲e offer to the community in the forms of music, art, and things that they would support. Come and support the children of the community performing, and the other groups that come to perform in our church.性视界传媒
